Just walk into a library and look around at the rows and rows of bookshelves filled with books. Books on any topic you can imagine. Books of all sizes and thicknesses. Looking at these books shows us just how much information there is that we still have to learn.

No matter how old we are, we should be studying and learning new things. Reading is a good way to do this. One of my goals at the beginning of this year was to read at least one book every month. Most months I have read more than that.
Some of the books have been just for pleasure reading, but quite a few of them have been educational. Picking up an up-to-date book and reading it, we can learn much helpful and valuable information.
Some life skills and crafts can be taught in books. We can learn new words in a foreign language by reading and memorizing them. By reading history books, we can learn about other times and learn from the successes and mistakes of those who have gone before us.

One of my latest projects I have been making for my Teachers Pay Teachers store is a study guide and girl’s devotional for the book In Grandma’s Attic by Arleta Richardson. This is a fun and entertaining book, but at the same time we can learn from it. We can learn about the long ago days when the events in it took place.
We can also learn spiritual lessons from it as we read about Mabel’s real-life experiences, like the time she prayed for rain, or when she got the measles on her birthday, or the difficult lesson on pride when she and her best friend wore hoop-skirts to church. The study guide is now available for purchase. You can find it for sale in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
With this wealth of information so readily available, it is important that we are careful what we read. Some of the books available aren’t worth opening. We need to be sure that what we are reading is wholesome and beneficial to us.
So what is your favorite non-fiction genre of books to read? I really enjoy Christian biographies.
The favorite nonfiction book I am enjoying right now is a devotional book called “Streams in the Desert.” The author compiled Bible verses, encouraging quotes, and poems and put them all together into one book. There is so much encouragement in that one little brown volume.
Yes! I love Streams in the Desert! Such a good daily devotional and easy to understand!
I enjoy Christian Biographies, too! I love reading about horses; breeds, history, fun facts, training, and even just sweet owner-horse stories. I also enjoy reading business-development books for small businesses. Kind of a goofy thing to enjoy reading, but I do prefer to learn and grow, rather than read for fun. 😀
Those are good books to enjoy reading, Grace! It is better to read books that help you learn good things than spend a lot of time reading books that don’t accomplish anything. Though there is a place for pleasure reading!
