It is the Christmas season, and I would like to share with you some verses about Jesus’ first coming to earth. These verses are special though, because they talked of His coming even before He came.
They were prophecies that one day a Savior would come. The first of the prophecies about Jesus’ first coming is found in Genesis 3:15, right after the fall of man, when sin entered the world.
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
I love all the prophecies about Jesus’ first coming, and I love that He fulfilled each of these prophecies exactly as they were written hundreds of years earlier.
