Immanuel & Intercession

Today we are looking at several names and attributes of God, including Immanuel, and one wonderful gift He has given us.

Immanuel: God with us. The great Creator actually came down to earth to be with us, with sinful man.

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

God is Immutable or unchanging. He has never changed, and He will never change. When we wake in the morning, we never have to wonder if God is different than He was the day before, if He will expect different things of us than He has in the past. He is always the same as He has always been. And His Word to us, the Bible is also unchanging

James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Psalm 119:89

For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

God is infinite, meaning He is without limit. This is one of my favorite attributes of God because it can be combined with other attributes. God is our Infinite Provider: His provision is without limit. He is Infinitely Wise: His wisdom is without limit. He is Infinitely Trustworthy: our trust in Him will never be misplaced.

Psalm 147:5

Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Hebrews 7:22,24

By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

What a wonderful thought that Jesus Himself makes intercession for us to the Father. And He isn’t the only member of the Trinity Who does that for us. The Holy Spirit also intercedes for us.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

What is one of your favorite attributes of God? What is a gift He has given us that you are especially thankful for today? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Bethany

This was such an encouraging post! Hannah, I love how you pointed out that infinite can be combined with God’s other attributes. He is infinite love!! All love that we have to offer comes only from Him.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1 John 4:9-11

    1. I’m so glad this post was a blessing to you, Bethany! I’m so grateful for God’s infinite love. Thank you for sharing those verses!
